Class 5

Year 2

Class Teacher: Miss L Sixsmith

What does a typical day look like in Class 5?

A member of class is always at the door to welcome everyone into the classroom. The children put their belongings in the correct place in the classroom and complete a morning activity.

The children take part in a daily phonics lesson. Phonics is an effective way to help children to read. We use Sounds Write as our phonics scheme. Children learn sounds and related symbols to build words to form sentences.

Children also complete a Talk 4 Writing lesson as part of their English each day. The children learn to retell stories and non fiction texts using actions. They learn the tools needed to write in the same genre. The children over time then write in a similar way.

Within maths, the children complete a mastering number lesson and a White rose maths lesson each day. Mastering number ensures that the children have a secure understanding of number. White rose maths divides the maths into blocks and small steps for each year group.

In the afternoon the children complete the wider curriciulum including history, geography, art, science and much more. Please find more information by looking at the curriculum page

General Information

PE: Children should come to school in PE kit each Thursday.

Reading: Children will bring home a reading book which is connected to the stage of phonics they are working at. It is important that the children read regularly and bring their book into school each day.

Reading for Pleasure: Children will visit our reading for pleasure library each week. Children will choose a book that interests them to bring home to share at home. It would be wonderful if an adult at home can take time to enjoy reading the book with their child.

Homework: Homework will be given out each Friday to be completed for the following Wednesday.
