Welcome to Early Years

We are two classes based in an Early Years unit with access to our own outdoor area.

Please ensure you join our class dojo as we share lots of information and photographs with our families on a regular basis to keep them informed of all the things happening in our class.

What a typical day looks like?

Each morning staff are at the gate ready to greet the children as they arrive and welcome them into school. As the children become more independent they organise their own belongings, the children sign in, say how they are feeling today and then get busy in the classroom.

The children then gather in small groups for circle time with their key adult, this promotes communication and language skills, alongside personal and social skills.

Each day the children have a phonics lesson, we use Sounds Write as the scheme we follow. The children learn sounds and the related symbol to begin to build words to form sentences. Children are taught to say the sounds to write and read the word.

The children take part in a daily Talk 4 Writing lessons. Children learn to retell stories with actions and then use their knowledge to change the story to a new one using their own ideas.

We use mastering number to teach mathematics, this builds up a secure knowledge of the numbers 1-10 and is supplemented with White rose maths for the teaching of shape, space and measure.

The children also have focus learning thoughout the week on the other areas of learning including Religous Education, Understanding the World, Personal, social and emotional development and expressive arts and design.

The classroom both inside and outside is divided into continuous provision areas which are open ended to enable children to follow their interests and develop their own ideas and sense of self. This is used thorughout the day to support learning.

The children have a morning and afternoon snack in school. Morning snack includes a range of fruit and afternoon snack promotes independent skills in making their own food.

The children eat lunch in the school hall, there is a range of lunch choices which are pre-ordered each day, familiar staff are with the children at lunchtime and they play outisde with others after.

At the end of the school day families meet their child at the red gate, staff are always available if you would like to discuss anything with them.

What does my child need to bring to school each day?

book bag and reading book

water bottle

coat (this should be waterproof as we still go outside even if it is wet)
