Admissions Arrangements
Sacred Heart is a Catholic School under the trusteeship of the Archdiocese of Liverpool. It has maintained status within Wigan Local Authority. As a Voluntary Aided School, the Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admissions. The coordination of admissions is undertaken by the Local Authority.
The Admission Number for the 2024-2025 reception year intake is 45.

Applying for a reception class place for September 2025
If your child was born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021, they will start reception class at the start of the new school year in September 2025.
If any of the schools you want your child to go to is a Wigan voluntary aided (church) primary school the governors will need extra information so that they can consider your application against their faith criteria. If you do not give this information your child may be refused a place. If Twelve Apostles is one of your preferred choice you are strongly advised to complete a supplementary information form in the link above.

Appeals for a place at an Archdiocese of Liverpool primary school
To appeal for a place at Wigan Catholic primary school in the Archdiocese of Liverpool, you will need to:
Visit the Archdiocese of Liverpool website to request an appeal form
Contact the Archdiocese of Liverpool Schools Department by calling 0151 522 1071

To Submit an Appeal
School appeals should be submitted online via our website wherever possible, by completing the form at: http://www.liverpoolcatholic.org.uk/education/Appealing-For-A-School-Place.
If this is not possible please send an email to aes@rcaol.org.uk to include your name, address, telephone number and the school for which you wish to appeal and we will issue a form to you via email.
If neither of the above is possible please call 0151 522 1071 and leave a message. We will contact you as soon as possible but there may be a delay in doing so.

General Information
Where a parent is unsuccessful in obtaining a place for their child at a school to which they have applied they have a legal right to appeal that decision. This appeal is heard by an independent appeal panel. The Education Department at the Archdiocese arranges admission appeals for primary and secondary schools for the following local authority areas:

Appeals Timetable
Appeals for normal year of entry, i.e. Reception and Year 7, are arranged each year generally according to the following timetable. The dates may vary depending on whether the offer date falls on a weekend and may also differ slightly from those given by each of the Local Authorities:
Secondary offer date: 1st March
Appeals to be lodged by: 1st April
Appeals to be heard: 18th June
Primary Offer date: 16th April
Appeals to be lodged by: 15th May
Appeals to be heard by: 217th July
Appeals received after these dates for normal year of admissions in September 2024 will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline where possible, or soon thereafter.
In-year appeals
Appeals resulting from in-year admission applications will be heard on a date to be arranged within 30 school days of the appeal form being received.
In some exceptional circumstances, there may be a need to hold hearings after these dates.
