Internet Safety

Observe internet safety websites, then make a poster using Publisher.

Week 1

Make notes from internet safety websites. Watch video’s and play internet safety game on Digizen.

Week 2

Watch Internet Safety video (Caught in the web). Show how to insert and alter a title using wordart. Continue to make poster using word boxes and pictures.

Show children how to screen shot, cut and paste.

Week 3

Continue last week’s lesson.

Week 4

Insert more pictures and include WordArt so it writes horizontal.

Week 5

Fill in worksheet to test what they have learned.

Resources

Internet / Publisher / Computers

Aim

Use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies

Communication/Collaboration

Plan – Choose two items which are closely linked, like Crocodiles and Alligators and make a PowerPoint Presentation, comparing the differences of both.

Week 1

Demonstrate a finished presentation, showing how to set up slides.

Children set-up slides – thinking about design, colour, fonts and WordArt

Week 2

Research information for slide.  Fill in worksheet 1.

Week 3

Input data & copy and paste pictures from internet.

Week 4

Find good websites, copy and paste address onto slide 6 (To use later).  Find logo images that go to the found websites.  Hyperlink the logos to the websites. Then test clicks.

Week 5

Make buttons then use these buttons as hyperlinks to other pages.  Use worksheet 2 fill in information, (They may have already found some of this information in week 2 (worksheet 1)).  On slide 7 make a graph using this information.

Week 6

Finish everything the add animations and transitions. Check all links (Debug if needed).

Resources

Internet / PowerPoint / Worksheets /

Aim

Select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information.

Programming

Plan – Logo / Scratch

Week 1

Recap, what they learned in year 3.  Then fill in worksheet 1

Week 2

Draw a robot, with buttons, antenna, mouth and eyes. Remember pu – pen up and pd pen down. Look at commands sheet and draw a robot. Use setps from 50 to 500 makes pen thicker, setpc – colours

0 = Black, 1 = Red, 2 = Orange, 3 = Yellow, 4 = Green, 5 = Blue, 6 = Purple, 7 = Grey, 8 = White.

Explain how algorithms must be in correct order, for example thickness, colour then move not move colour, thickness.  Children draw house or robot again but this time write a line of instructions before entering.

Week 3

Look at worksheet 3 and find the mistakes (Debug) –

Follow worksheet 4 then see if they can write their own commands using double brackets and repeat commands.

Draw some patterns of their own.

Week 4

Open Scratch

First the children covert format to bitmap.  Show what all commands do then let them make a character, copy three time and change something.

Talk about what all the different command buttons do. Write a simple script to animate their character.

Week 5

Make a new sprite using last week’s work.  Write algorithms so this character can also move or change. Show how to shrink.  If finished add background.

Week 6

Using algorithms get the two sprites to talk to each other.

Resources

2simple – Logo/Computer/worksheets/pen or pencil/whiteboard/Scratch

Aim

Use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output

Computational Thinking –

2DIY – pairs -  & Internet  - Plan – Make 3 games different levels then link them together

Week 1

Plan game using worksheet 1.  Search the internet for pictures to match sounds

Make 3 different games with different levels of ability.

Week 2

Make a pairs game using the pictures you found. Remember to

*design back of card,

*Add title,

*Add instruction,

*Add sound

*tidy up so it looks good.

Week 3

Choose Placing  then pick this option

Split your page

 choose two different sounds.

Next add all the pictures to the squares at the bottom but remember to

mix them up and  match accordingly.  Add sound.

Week 4

Choose the catching game and decide on the direction you want.

This time make a character to collect the sounds.  Add a simple background (Not too much detail).

Choose one sound, then add four correct pictures and four wrong pictures. Make the right pictures add

points and the wrong pictures subtract points or lose a life.  Add Instructions and sound.

If finished do this again with a different sound.

Week 5

Finish games and debug any issues then pair all the games together as one.

If there is time, let the children play each other’s games.

Resources

2diy / Internet / Worksheets / Pencils /

Aim

Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts

Creativity

Plan – Using different Apps on the iPad create a comic strip.

Week 1

Show some of last year’s comic strips.  Put children in groups of three/four

Explain what is going to happen

Make planned comic strip (Include every child in group as a character).

Week 2

Take photos on iPad to match their plans.  Go on internet (On IPad) find and save backgrounds that match their story. (Make sure everyone in group takes a photo and finds a background). Save

Week 3

Delete backgrounds from photos taken last week. Merge the photos with the background picture saved last week.

Week 4

Continue week 3’s lesson

Week 5

Find template they chose in week one. Input new pictures into correct order on comic strip, then make boxes (panels) under pictures to write their captions (look at plans).

Week 6

Add any extras like call outs and props.  Finish and show some on whiteboard.

Resources

IPads/Internet/Apps – Comic Life, Cut+Copy, Photos/Paper and pencils/

Aim

Use search technologies effectively, appreciate how results are selected and ranked, and be discerning in evaluating digital content

Networking

Plan –Scratch – Questions and Quizzes (Maths related).

Week 1

Choose one or two of the games, made earlier on in the year (Computational Thinking). Show the children the paper plans and the finished online results. In pairs children write down any pro’s and con’s, (Worksheet 1). Ask what helped them when they made their first game, i.e. - planning, internet, programs and talk through their answers before demonstrating how to create a paper plan for their new game.  On their own (Use worksheet 2 for planning).

Week 2

Open Scratch and ask how they think they could create their new game using Scratch,

Show the children sample of a game and see if they can talk you through how to make a sprite which moves.

Next the children think about a theme and make their characters, to match that theme. If they finish they can animate their character like they did early this year. (If needed, use Diagram 1, to help).

Week 3

Continue last weeks lesson until they have one character with four different positions. Change mouth and eyes on all.

Week 4

Explain open and closed questions, then in pairs think about 3 open-ended & 3 closed-ended questions.  (Write their results on worksheet 3).

Add background to match theme.

Week 5

Using algorithms get their sprite to ask questions then reply to your answer.

Week 6

Make a variable ‘SCORE’ then add code to calculate the score. (Diagram 3) add to the bottom of code block 2

Next add two sounds, one for correct, one for wrong. (Diagram 4).

Aim

Understand computer networks, including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the World Wide Web, and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration.

Productivity

Plan – Using excel to make a tables, add data, then input formulas to calculate their work.

Week 1

Recap calculations and resizing from year 3.  See if they can remember any names in excel such as cell....

Set up tables using four different people.  Follow sheets provided (Worksheet 1)

Week 2

Continue to set up tables

Week 3

Children choose 3 topping, 1 base, one sauce.  Then in the second table they use worksheet to input data combining the prices with their choices.

Week 4

Start to calculate answers using formulas.

Week 5

Continue to input data and formulas if finished show children how to colour the tables.

Week 6

Follow worksheet two, see if the children can remember how to do all of the above.
